This school year, the primary aim of the English and Literature department is to “Read the past while writing the future”. The theme for this year is being promoted in order to stimulate a thirst for both reading and writing so that future generations, like us, are aware of how their ancestors lived.
We at St. Anne’s in an attempt to both foster and sustain literacy, the basis of our school, have teamed up with published authors, such as Mrs. Simone Bowe, who briefly spoke about her love for literacy. Other activities included a poetry competition, making book marks, creating story books for early education children and hosting a poster competition. Also, we hosted entertaining and informative literacy month assembly with our guest speaker being Mrs. Claudette ‘Cookie’ Allen.
To wrap things all up, this year’s successful literacy campaign has given students an overview of the fun in literacy and has shown the student population that books are so much more than they are made out to be.
